I'm a bit annoyed because we don't have money for extras like that. And I feel bad for feeling this way. We have company coming in next week and this money could have been used for that. Am I wrong to be a bit upset? I think it is very thoughtful of him, but at the same time, its the money thing and the arrangement was obviously expensive.

It's ok to feel this way, but now is not the time to bring it up. Later on, you can mention that you would rather not get flowers - there's nothing wrong with this. I personally don't care about flowers - they just make a mess; my husband knows how I feel, and has no problem finding other (less clich茅) ways of expressing his affection. I told my husband pretty early on - if you ever get a funny desire to buy flowers, just look up how much they cost, count out the cash, and put it on my desk; then I will know that the sentiment was there, and it's the thought that counts.
